Skin Rejuvenation

People quite often tend to find the younger and fresher they look the better they feel about themselves.  However as time goes our age starts to show.  Age, smoking, drinking, stress and sun exposure can cause lines and wrinkles to form.  The face gradually starts to sag through a loss of elasticity, loss of fat in the cheeks and the effects of gravity.  Quite often skin tone starts to change resulting in reddening, broken veins and sun/age spots.

What treatments are available to rejuvenate my skin in ‘MBE’?

Photo rejuvenation  is a term to describe the treatment with intense pulsed light (IPL)  to improve the visible signs of ageing caused by sun damage such as brown spots (pigmentation), redness (thread veins, rosacea) and uneven skin  texture by stimulation collaged production.

The type of IPL machine is an important factor to take into account as the market is flooded with weak machines.  The Lynton Lumina IPL is a medical grade machine.

How does the intense pulsed light work?

Precisely controlled short pulses of filtered light are released through the hand piece.  This light and heat stimulate fibroblast cells within the skin to produce collagen and elastin.  In addition the light is absorbed by thread veins and age spots and freckles to break them down resulting in a clearer, more uniform complexion.  The skin becomes firmer, appears more radiant and enlarged pores are reduced.

How many treatments will I need?

Treatments are usually carried out every 2-3 weeks.  Six treatments are recommended for collagen stimulation but thread veins and sun spots often require fewer treatments. For best results one or two top up sessions a year may be required.

Are there any side effects and what can I expect after a treatment?

Redness and a warming sensation are normal immediately after treatment.  A cooling pack will be applied to the skin.

After a few days there is usually a darkening of pigmented spots before the flake off.  Sometimes some mild swelling may occur.  Tightening of the skin tends to occur over the following months as new collagen is produced in the dermis.
